Barbecue Diet
Is there such a thing as a barbecue diet? Well, if it's as hot where you are as it is here, you'll have already broken out the barbecue and you'll be looking for some tasty recipes that keep you eating healthy and won't jeopardize your weight loss program or diet.
The great thing about barbecues is that you can cook such a wide variety of food that is low fat and low carbohydrate. A barbecue is definitely one of the healthiest ways of preparing food because with a barbecue, all the fat simply runs out of the food and drops off onto the coals, which is much better than it sitting a pan or dish and soaking back into the food. So even just by choosing to cook your food this way you're half way to creating your barbecue diet.
By the way, that's one of the reasons that you'll suddenly get a flare up in your barbecue - it's all the fat dripping onto the coals. Make sure you don't leave the food in the flames or you'll end up with it overcooked on the outside and undercooked on the inside.
Of course the things to watch out for with your barbecue diets are the sauces and marinades and the desserts - it's these that contain all the sugar and will make your healthy barbecue not so healthy. There are plenty of low fat, low sugar or low carb barbecue sauces that you can buy or even make yourself. Stick to these and you'll still be able to call your barbecue healthy.
So how does a barbecue become a barbecue diet? All you need to do is work out your meal plan for a week or so, and then cook everything on your barbecue in advance. Make sure to include plenty of low fat foods such as chicken without the skin, low fat burgers and low fat sausages. Consider vegetable kebabs and fish kebabs. By the way, have you tried barbecued Salmon? It's delicious. Then you'll need to get hold of some of those small food bags and when everything has cooled down, bag up each meal separately and then pop them into the freezer.
When you're ready for one of your barbecue diet meals, get a bag out of the freezer and defrost, throw together a healthy salad and there you are - instant barbecue diet meal!
I don't know about you, but I don't think you can beat the taste and smell of barbecued food, especially on a hot day, there's just something about it I can't resist. It really is the healthy way to prepare food but you've just got to watch out for those sauces and sweets though. Happy barbecue dieting!
